Ukrainian women have been actively engaged in civic activities to confront the new challenges arising from the war. Our gender-based disaggregation analysis of the Civic Engagement Poll reveals that over the past year, 70% of externally displaced women (EDPs), 67% of internally displaced women (IDPs), and 67% of non-displaced women (NDPs) contributed financially to resist Russia’s aggression. Moreover, the majority of women volunteered for various war-related causes, with 54% of EDPs, 52% of IDPs, and 62% of NDPs offering their support. Additionally, a considerable proportion of women verified war-related information from credible sources, with 64% of EDPs, 47% of IDPs, and 44% of NDPs participating.

Center for Civil Liberties Promotes Women’s Empowerment during Wartime at International Events

Last week, Oleksandra Matviichuk and Oleksandra Romantsova, leaders of the Center for Civil Liberties, actively participated in international events, advocating for democracy and women’s empowerment. On March 5, Ms. Matviichuk emphasized the importance of global democracy at the “Fact & Fiction: The Future of Democracy” event in Brussels. On March 7, she addressed women’s challenges in conflicts at the “Join Harper’s Bazaar at Our International Women’s Day gala dinner” in London. Meanwhile, Oleksandra Romantsova spoke on women’s leadership in crises at the FORBES WOMAN AFRICA Leading Women Summit 2024 in South Africa on March 8.

GoGlobal Addresses Role of Ukrainian Women in Tackling Wartime Challenges

On March 6, Ksana Nechyporenko, Chair of the Board of GoGlobal, took part in the International Women’s Day Forum, hosted by the Atlantic Council and Vital Voices Global Partnerships in Washington, DC. During the event, she highlighted the resilience and courage of Ukrainian women who display their strength not only on the front lines but also in the rear during the war.

CHESNO Movement Reveals Local Council’s Transparency Levels Amid War

On March 7, the CHESNO Movement released the findings of its third transparency monitoring of local councils. The evaluation, considering 11 criteria like session announcements and agenda publication, indicates that despite challenges posed by the imposition of martial law and security risks affecting information access, there are positive trends towards enhanced transparency. Nonetheless, even councils with strong performance exhibit areas for improvement.

New Europe Center to Host International Forum to Foster Ukraine’s Cooperation with Japan 

On March 15, the New Europe Center will host the 4th Ukraine-Japan Forum, titled “Special Global Partnership: Ukraine and Japan in the Context of the Russian War.” The forum aims to establish closer cooperation and develop a better understanding between the two countries, particularly at the level of think tanks. Across three discussion panels, analysts and academics from Japan and Ukraine will discuss issues related to the broader security environment, as well as bilateral relations in the context of the ongoing Russia aggression against Ukraine.
