Ukrainian Civil Society News, July 13

Since the beginning of the war, the idea of helping others became a guiding light for many Ukrainians. Again and again, media pictures touching stories of empathy and compassion. We learned we can raise money for any kind of equipment or even weaponry. It is time that can discover what else we are capable of when it comes to protecting Ukraine.


In this issue of our newsletter, we honor civil society organizations that raise money for the defenders of Ukraine or provide any other assistance to the army or those badly impacted by the war. Get inspiration for your good deeds and engage in the weekly read!

Russia`s unprovoked and unjustified aggression forced millions of Ukrainians to leave their homes and flee to other countries. According to the UN Refugee Agency data portal, 5,650,272 individual refugees from Ukraine have been recorded across Europe as of July 6, 2022. Do locals welcome newcomers? The Ipsos survey polled 28 countries worldwide to find the latest attitudes towards refugees. The findings suggest that the war in Ukraine increased public openness to people fleeing war or oppression. Some 78% of people believe those escaping conflict or persecution should be able to take refuge in another country. The situation in Ukraine is also motivating many to take action to support refugees, such as making donations (21%), sharing supportive messages on social media (15%) and contacting the government to advocate for support to refugees (7%).

All-Ukrainian Association of Music Events Presents Ukraine at the European Music Festival

On July 7-9, the All-Ukrainian Association of Music Events (UAME) hosted a special Ukrainian event at the European music festival “Pohoda” held in Trenčín, Slovakia. During the event, guests of the festival had the opportunity to get acquainted with Ukrainian music and artists, buy Ukrainian products, and learn more about the war in Ukraine with the help of VR technology. All activities made the festival-goers more familiar with the culture and music of our country, once again drawing attention to the situation in Ukraine and raising funds for the humanitarian needs of Ukrainians.

Center for Social Partnership Raises Almost UAH 1 Million to Procure Aid Kits for the Army

On July 6, the Center for Social Partnership shared that it raised 911,000 UAH to procure IFAK tactical first-aid kits for Sumy defenders during a month. The collected sum sufficed for procuring 300 kits, however, thanks to the charities and discounts from the suppliers, the CSO managed to provide 500 individual kits for the armed forces. In total, as of July 6, the organization has already collected 1,420 kits.

Center of Policy and Legal Reform Develops Vision for Reforms After Ukraine`s Victory

On July 7, the Center of Policy and Legal Reform released the document “Vision of Ukraine – 2030” created by the members of the “Ukraine After Victory” coalition. The document lists key achievements in each sector of state policy that need to be implemented by 2030 and includes recommendations on what to do to achieve this goal. The coalition plans to prepare respective policy documents on the proposed ideas and offer them to the Ukrainian authorities and partners in the post-victory reconstruction of Ukraine.

Grant Competition for the Development of Partnerships Between Local and Displaced CSOs

UNDP announces a grant competition for developing partnerships between local and displaced communities to overcome war-related challenges in Ukraine. Consortia (alliances) formed from local and displaced CSOs are invited to apply. Applicants are expected to have experience in community security and social cohesion and actively work on strengthening the role of civil society in host communities. The application deadline is July 21, 2022.

Pact Ukraine announces a grant competition for participants of the “Superpower for local women’s organizations” program. The Assessment of the Humanitarian Situation in Ukraine

On July 5, the Razumkov Centre issued an analytical note “Overview of the humanitarian situation in Ukraine.” The paper provides an overview and assessment of the humanitarian needs of Ukrainian citizens, including vulnerable groups, on the eve of the war and during wartime. It singles out a range of factors (logistical constraints, limited humanitarian access to areas of active hostilities, environmental risks, weather conditions, etc) aggravating the humanitarian situation in Ukraine, as well as identifies priority measures to overcome humanitarian crises.
