In 2023, a survey conducted by the Razumkov Center highlighted a notable surge in political interest among Ukrainians. The findings reveal that in 2023, 62% of Ukrainians expressed interest in politics, compared to 55% in 2019. Breaking down the socio-demographic profile of politically interested citizens, the data indicates a balanced distribution between men (48%) and women (52%). Additionally, 23% actively engage in civic activities, and 53% are open to collaboration within civil society organizations to protect their rights. Notably, individuals aged 60 and above exhibit the highest interest in politics (30%), followed by the 30-39 age group (20%), while younger Ukrainians aged 18-29 show comparatively less interest (13%). Furthermore, the majority of politically interested citizens (44%) hold higher or incomplete higher education.

CHESNO Movement Analyzes Citizens’ Opinions on Democracy Tools During the War

A sociological survey, conducted by the CHESNO Movement, gauges citizens’ attitudes towards electronic petitions,pro-Russia politicians, transparency of the Parliamentary sessions during the warthe national telethon, and the influence of the Office of the President on state institutions. The survey was commissioned by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation in cooperation with the Razumkov Center at the request of the CSO.

Crimean Tatar Resource Center Presents Documentary on the Role of Crimean Indigenous People in Repelling Russia’s Aggression

On January 11, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center (CTRC), held a presentation of the documentary film “Crimean Askers” on the Crimean soldiers fighting against Russia’s aggression. The documentary features interviews with Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel of Crimean Tatar origin, some conducted anonymously for security reasons as some of the soldiers’ families reside in the occupied Crimea. School for Policy Analysis Assesses Russia’s Propaganda Messages in Temporarily Occupied Territories 

On January 9, the School for Policy Analysis published the December issue of the monitoring report on Russia’s propaganda activities on 35 Telegram channels, operating in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, including the Kherson, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Crimea regions. The key messages include the upcoming Russian presidential elections held in the occupied territories; residents’ support for Putin, and others.

Bohdan Hawrylyshyn Family Foundation to Host the Responsibility Award Ceremony

On January 22, the Bohdan Hawrylyshyn Family Foundation (BHFF), will host the Award Ceremony to announce the Laureates of the Responsibility Award 2023. This year, BHFF will recognize civil society organizations that demonstrate outstanding responsible partnerships, emphasizing cross-sectoral collaboration. The Award’s jury, including Svitlana Kolodii, the USAID/ENGAGE Private Sector Engagement and Sustainability Program Officer, will evaluate the submissions. Ten finalists will be shortlisted out of 50 organizations, including the USAID/ENGAGE partners Plato (Urban Garden Space “Rozsadnyk”) and EdCamp Ukraine (Social-Emotional Skills for Life in the 21st Century: The Community of Responsible Teaching), and three laureates will be selected. A total of 168 organizations submitted applications for the Award.
