Even now when women increasingly pursue traditionally male careers, including positions in government, the effects of gender stereotyping cannot be underestimated. Do stereotypes influence the division of roles between women and men in the workplace in Ukraine? The recent study finds it that although a sweeping majority of citizens (81%) believe that the Ukrainian economy would profit from gender equality, there are clear signs of tug-o-war regarding some issues. For instance, men are more inclined to believe that having a job is part of their identity than women (95% vs 83%), while more women think that both sexes can successfully cope with the challenges in their profession (79% vs 65% among men). Despite the differences, there is a beam of hope that gender stereotypes will shrink, as both men and women agree that career perspectives should be equal for their children regardless of their sex.
