About the ENGAGE activity

Pact, a non-profit organization based in Kyiv, Ukraine is implementing a USAID-funded project Enhance Non-Governmental Actors and Grassroots Engagement (ENGAGE) activity.

The purpose of ENGAGE is to increase citizen awareness of and engagement in civic activities at the national, regional and local level.  ENGAGE focuses efforts at both the grassroots level to educate and activate citizens to engage in civic initiatives as well as the national and regional (oblast and rayon) levels to improve organizational capacities, build coalitions, support advocacy and watchdog initiatives. The ENGAGE activity primarily focuses on key democratic reforms and cross- cutting themes, such as: anti-corruption, civil education and transparency and accountability including electoral processes, inclusive development of various vulnerable groups, youth and EU integration.

Position is contingent upon funding.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Senior Communication Manager, the Communication Officer develops and implements the communication objectives and communication plans, illustrates both the mission and success of the ENGAGE activity by utilizing various marketing and branding techniques, including storytelling and visual communications. S/he will design and distribute various internal and external Pact communication products on various platforms including ENGAGE’s own communication channels and external media.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Follow communication objectives and communication plans;
  • Contribute to the production of regular ENGAGE communication products including weekly newsletter and weekly updates, content for ENGAGE social media and website;
  • Ensure effective cooperation with ENGAGE vendors;
  • Ensure the proper branding of ENGAGE external/public documents;
  • Ensure appropriate communication between ENGAGE and its partners;
  • Monitor the public activities and communication of ENGAGE and its partners, including via media monitoring systems;
  • Identify opportunities for media coverage and coordinate media relations around events and specific products and work in line with communication objectives and plans;
  • Contribute to the development and packaging of ENGAGE analytical materials and research papers;
  • Write press releases, speeches and articles; edit and organize publication of documents in both English and Ukrainian;
  • Design and develop visuals to support communication around ENGAGE events and products, including visuals for social media publications, infographics, presentations, brochures, etc;
  • All other duties as assigned.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in the fields of journalism, public relations or communications;
  • Fluent in English and Ukrainian;
  • Ability to write, edit and adapt texts for various communication purposes and target audiences;
  • Computer literacy, ability to work with visual editing tools and content management systems;
  • Understanding of communication performance metrics, ability and experience of work with media monitoring and performance tracking systems;
  • Proactivity, agility of mind, analytical thinking, attentiveness to detail, and ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a complex workload and deadline;
  • Excellent teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in communications, preferable with international programs, especially USAID-funded;
  • Demonstrated experience working and negotiating services with suppliers and vendors.
