Russia`s unprovoked and unjustified aggression forced millions of Ukrainians to leave their homes and flee to other countries. According to the UN Refugee Agency data portal, 5,650,272 individual refugees from Ukraine have been recorded across Europe as of July 6, 2022. Do locals welcome newcomers? The Ipsos survey polled 28 countries worldwide to find the latest attitudes towards refugees. The findings suggest that the war in Ukraine increased public openness to people fleeing war or oppression. Some 78% of people believe those escaping conflict or persecution should be able to take refuge in another country. The situation in Ukraine is also motivating many to take action to support refugees, such as making donations (21%), sharing supportive messages on social media (15%) and contacting the government to advocate for support to refugees (7%).
