Yesterday marked “Giving Tuesday”, a global day dedicated to inspiring acts of kindness and fostering a culture of philanthropy. This year, it holds special significance as a chance for individuals to demonstrate their support for those defending Ukraine’s territorial integrity and the freedom of its people. In this newsletter, we explore Ukrainians’ steadfast commitment to charitable contributions during the war. Additionally, we highlight our partners’ fundraising initiatives and ongoing campaigns. According to our Civic Engagement Poll (CEP), an overwhelming majority of Ukrainians donated money to war-related needs since the beginning of the war (84% NDPs, 82% IDPs, and 83% EDPs). On the other hand, only 5% of respondents residing in Ukraine and 4% of externally displaced citizens donated money to CSO activities. Encouragingly, however, Ukrainians are ready to donate money to various causes aimed at facilitating post-war recovery. This includes facilitating the rehabilitation of war veterans and others affected by war (91% NDPs, 88% IDPs, and 87% EDPs). Financially supporting the reconstruction of infrastructure (75% NDPs, 75% IDPs, and 68% EDPs) and the restoration of damaged cultural heritage (74% NDPs, 73% IDPs, and 64% EDPs). Addressing environmental issues (78% NDPs, 79% IDPs, and 73% EDPs). Yet, fewer respondents from all samples are ready to donate money to civil society organizations that promote government accountability, reforms and EU integration (51% NDPs, 49% IDPs, and 44% EDPs).

Giving Tuesday: USAID/ENGAGE Partners
- Since the founding of the Music Saves initiative, the All-Ukrainian Association of Music Events (UAME) provided help to over 42,700 people, delivered over 629 tons of humanitarian aid, purchased one evacuation boat and evacuated over 20,000 people. - Zakhyst successfully raised nearly 1,190,000 USD to finance its “Saving Together: Kherson” humanitarian Program. The CSO provided nearly 88,000 USD for 1,459 families with children in need from Kherson and the Kherson Oblast. Through June and July, Zakhyst raised approximately 875,000 USD to help the Kherson recover from the terrorist attack on the Kakhovka dam. - In 2023, Smart Osvita raised over 25,000 USD to provide ten schools with “Shelter Kits” (toolkits aimed at enhancing children’s mental resilience in school shelters), the provision of psychological training for Ukrainian teachers to enhance the resilience of teachers and students through the establishment of a platform with psychological materials. - In 2023, the Bohdan Hawrylyshyn Family Foundation raised nearly 18,000 USD for demining equipment to support Ukrainian sappers clearing areas in Donetsk and Kyiv regions. Please contribute to the fundraising effort – https://cutt.ly/MwOldoY
- In 2023, Go Global raised about 100,000 USD to organize camp activities for teenagers in the border communities of Chernihiv and Sumy regions. Additionally, their partner Snap Inc. and Australian volunteers sent gift sets to program participants. - Vox Ukraine is organizing a series of charitable lectures and workshops called the “Charity Marathon” to raise funds for the support of the Ukrainian army. Since the beginning of the Marathon in August 2022, Vox Ukraine has conducted 21 lectures and workshops attended by 520 people who donated 11,000 USD. Follow the organization’s Facebook page for updates on upcoming charitable events.
- In 2023, Toronto Television raised over 1,7 mln USD for various social and military purposes, supporting funds such as Brave Ukrainians, Come Back Alive Foundation, Serhiy Prytula Foundation, and others, and directly addressing urgent needs of various brigades and units defending Ukraine on the front lines. The organization is currently raising funds for a ground station and five Shark Mini aircraft for the aerial reconnaissance unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – https://cutt.ly/CwOlPB1a

What We Read
World Giving Index 2023: Global Trends in Generosity
The World Giving Index (WGI) is an annual report published by the Charities Aid Foundation, using data gathered by Gallup, and ranks over 140 countries in the world according to how charitable they are. This year, Ukraine ranked second out of 142 countries with a score of 62. Significantly, Ukraine emerged as the most improved nation, witnessing the largest global score increase (+13). According to the report, 78% of adults in Ukraine helped strangers, 70% donated money, and 37% volunteered.
