Pushing for reforms, the creation of social enterprises, or by developing new education methodologies

Mark Twain once wrote that “a man who carries a cat by the tail learns something he can learn in no other way.” Indeed, learning by doing provides more than mere knowledge, it allows one to obtain experience, to interact with others, to directly apply their knowledge, and even the reward of seeing the fruits of their labor. Sometimes learning by doing is a necessity, as in the case of new and inexperienced government leaders. Among grassroots, civil society leaders, learning by doing is not uncommon. It occurs everyday through efforts to hold local authorities accountable, pushing for reforms, the creation of social enterprises, or by developing new education methodologies. Read about the innovative and inspiring experiences of your fellow civil society partners in our newest highlights. It is said that the fight for democracy never ends. But everyone needs a break too. We will take a break as well, pausing our newsletter for several weeks during August, not only to relax, but to reflect, review, and analyze our own work. Enjoy this pre-last summer newsletter and pleasant summer travels!
