Healthy citizens not only choose nourishing foods at the market, they perform their civic duty to vote, carefully selecting beneficial candidates to run their government. Like a menu, the election ballot provides us with many choices. All candidates would like us to believe that they are best for us and that they will benefit society. And we all have our own preconceptions about what is best for us. But deciding what makes a healthy society requires work—a discerning citizen investigates what candidates can actually offer, not simply what they advertise.
