Chuhuiv and Kropyvnytskyi Coalitions Ensure Effective Citizen Participation

Citizen participation was the main focus of discussions between activists and their partners during the final coalition event. Participants discussed not only the key achievements, but also developed action plans for the future. The Kropyvnytskyi Coalition produced several results, including, the adoption of the city’s charter and local democracy provisions; launching the local “Online Map of Road Repairs”; and successful advocacy for provisions on health reform. Activists’ future advocacy plans concentrated on adopting a new green policy, liquidating unprofitable communal enterprises, and regulations for a competitive process of appointment for directors.

Meanwhile, the Chuhuiv Coalition reported on the development and adoption of local policy changes related to environmental protection, transparency of communal enterprises, public hearings and online public consultations. Activists also stressed their efforts to develop local strategy for a solid waste management system and the obligatory creation of supervisory boards in local communal enterprises.
